A Day of Fun, Friendship, and Hockey

On the sunny Saturday morning of September 2nd, the Dartford Hockey Club gathered in high spirits to host our annual Club Day at DSTC (Dartford Science and Technology College). This event is a great way to get everyone together – the current club members, dedicated umpires, passionate supporters – and extends a warm welcome to anyone eager to become a part of our club.

We had a visit from one of our local Councillor Avtar Sandhu, who we meet a couple of months before at the local business fair at Dartford Orchard Theatre.

To kick off the day's festivities, our Chairperson, Jenni Davis, delivered a welcome speech.

Before we dove into the hockey action, a gentle jog around the pitch served as our warm-up. For some of us, it was quite the wake-up call after a leisurely summer break. Thanks to Kyra, we got our bodies stretched and ready for the exciting activities ahead.

Our journey through the day's events commenced with a lively game of 'It's a Knockout.' Picture this: each player guarding their ball within the D, while simultaneously attempting to knock out other players' balls. The last lady standing emerged as the victorious champion! It was a fantastic start, and it showcased the competitive yet fun spirit that defines our club.

Next, we transitioned into skill drills and shooting practice. These exercises were perfect for shaking off the stick cobwebs, and they offered an opportunity for both seasoned players to refine their technique and newcomers to learn the ropes.

But the highlight of the day had to be the 'Rush Hockey' session. We were divided into four teams, featuring a mix of abilities, and the games began. Laughter and cheers filled the air as we sprinted, passed, and defended, reveling in the joy of playing together once again. It was a true testament to the power of hockey in bringing people together.

As the session drew to a close, we headed off to Dartford's Stage Door Pub. There, amidst friendly banter and laughter, we continued to catch up and refuel with a delicious buffet that left our taste buds more than satisfied.

We are now very excited for the season to properly start this Saturday (23rd).. let the fun begin!
