Isle of Wight Hockey Festival 2010
This year, DOTs, Dartford on Tour, donned their sea legs and crossed the water to the IoW Hockey Festival. In a painful and thankless task, Jane arranged registration, accomodation and transport. The veterans (at least that's what we told the hotel) arrived late on Friday and spent a couple of hours taking in the Sandown night life.
Obviously, as keen hockey players, only soft drinks were consummed and everyone was in bed by 9.30.
At breakfast, the themed t-shirts were given out and became the official dress code for the tour. We made a formidable force as seaside super heros, capes and t-shirts made by Sam and masks source by Sharon.
The festival took place in Newport and after registration we had a long delay, so we went shopping. In full super hero mode. Criminals shook in their boots. Or maybe were just trying not to wet themselves laughing too much.
Oh, and we played a bit of hockey later in the afternoon.
Early Saturday evening saw a stroll along the beach and a drink in the pub for a few while the rest prepared themselves for the evening ahead. After a team meal we hit the club. Again we were all tucked up in bed with cocoa by 10. Who am I trying to kid, I have no idea what time we left, who tried to vandalise the Police car and who thought the ceiling needed holding up.
Hangovers were not evident, perhaps we were still drunk, on Sunday for two more games of hockey including the save of the festival. Following our keeper's wardrobe malfunction, we were keepless when the hosts were goalbound, only to see the keeper from another match run on to make a save and return to his match. Standing ovation!
Finally Ali, who had driven us around for the three days, delivered us back safe and sound to Darford.
Thanks to all those who played, Ali for driving, Sam and Sharon for costumes and Jane for organising.
