Summer League
Summer League 2011 The Summer League 2011 so far... (reports from the players).
As per usual summer league has been full of skilful, elegant and talented displays and of course true sportsmanship; occasionally letting the opposition win. The 1st team started their campaign brightly with a 3-0 win against Wellcome, goals from Chappers, Lou and Jane. The following match against Bexley Invicta resulted in a 2-2 draw again goals from Chappers. The 3rd Match, Meopham, provided a tough test and despite 2 great goals from Kirsty and Lou, Dartford Lost 2-3. A win, draw and a loss gives the 1st team a total of 6 points, 2nd place in the table, trailing behind Meopham on 12 points. Both teams have 2 remaining games in the plate including the Dartford Derby which I am sure will be played in good spirits!! Issy :
Dartford 2/3's entered the Gravesend summer league again this season. Our first game was against Bexley Invicta; we managed a draw from this game (3-3). Our younger members managed to catch Bexley Invicta out on occasions and goals came from Keeley (2) and Becki(1). Our next game was against Burnt Ash, unfortunately we lost 2-1. However it was a close game and we had our chances but Burnt Ash defence held strong. Surane managed to score our only goal in this game from a great cross by Caroline. I suppose I ought to admit I did manage to concede an own goal in this game. I personally would rather call it an unlucky deflection from a short corner, sorry Julie...The next game was against Meopham, where we were really outclassed (6-1). We knew it was going to be tough game so roped Gen into playing on pitch, scoring the consolation goal. Our penultimate game against Wellcome, was a 0-0 draw - although we should have won this game. We had several chances but could not find the back of the net. Our short corner routine was not well rehearsed which meant we didn't capitalise on these chances. The final game is yet to be played. The Dartford Derby grudge match - the 2nds/3rds playing the 1sts - we are hoping the 1sts will be taking their summer holidays!!!
Derby Grudge match update......
THE Derby Match was played between the club members on the 17th August and yes many of the 1's were holidaying (no commitment). The score doesn't matter but the "1's" did win! More importantly it was a really enjoyable game played in the right spirits but the 1's hoping for a clean sheet (so competitive and proud!) couldn't help but let one in courtesy of a dubious decision and my great defensive play (that's why I don't play at the back!). No grudges - well not too many - and only one injury! Such dedication - Hope that ankle is better for the start of the season Sharon! Welcome back Jane after your injury and welcome to new player Keeley Tyrell, who mentioned she used to like hockey and next thing she knew she was playing!!!
